On Monday, June 30, 2026, Christian Sedat paid a courtesy visit to the Metropolitan Archbishop of Douala to discuss the recent apostolic journey of Pope Léon XIV to Cameroon.

A significant diplomatic encounter took place at the Saint Pierre and Paul Cathedral in Douala. Christian Sedat, the German Ambassador to Cameroon, met with Mgr Samuel Kleda for a formal exchange that highlighted the intersection of diplomacy and faith.

During his time at the bishopric, the ambassador was given a guided tour of the premises. Accompanied by the chancellor of the Archdiocese of Douala, he visited the historic cathedral, which is currently celebrating its 70th anniversary. This visit served as a platform to discuss the vital role religious leaders play within Cameroonian society, particularly in the wake of the historic visit by Pope Léon XIV.

Strengthening ties between Germany and the Catholic Church

The meeting emphasized the deep-rooted connections between Germany, Cameroon, and the Catholic Church. It underscored the commitment to maintaining an active presence and engaging in continuous dialogue across the various regions of the country.

Christian Sedat has been leading the German diplomatic mission in Yaoundé since July 2025. He arrived in Cameroon with an extensive background in international relations, having previously served as the German Ambassador to South Sudan from 2023 to 2025. His career also includes high-level postings at the German embassies in Washington DC and London between 2009 and 2013, as well as a term as Deputy Head of Mission in Nouakchott, Mauritania.

Focus on cooperation and social development

His work is heavily focused on boosting economic partnerships and development initiatives. Furthermore, he is involved in sensitive cultural discussions regarding the restitution of heritage items from the colonial era. Beyond high-level policy, Sedat also oversees local social projects, including public health micro-initiatives that directly benefit local communities.
