I observed a major political confrontation as former Sports Minister Khady Diène Gaye publicly expressed her utter shock at assertions made by Cabinet Minister Abdourahmane Diouf. She vehemently denied his claims that Ousmane Sonko had agreed to a national debt restructuring plan.
A sharp rebuttal over debt restructuring claims
The Pastef official did not hold back in her condemnation of Abdourahmane Diouf, calling his assertions completely fabricated. She expressed her absolute disbelief upon hearing that the current head of the National Assembly and former Prime Minister, Ousmane Sonko, had supposedly endorsed such a financial strategy.
In a highly charged statement, Khady Diène Gaye blasted her former cabinet colleague, declaring: “Dramane has failed everywhere! Now, he resorts to ridiculous lies.” She admitted she was completely dumbfounded by the claims linking Ousmane Sonko to a debt restructuring agreement.
Personal attacks and political criticism
The dispute quickly turned personal. Khady Diène Gaye openly questioned Abdourahmane Diouf’s professional and personal trajectory, claiming he had repeatedly failed in his attempts to re-establish himself in Sénégal. She even brought up his unsuccessful attempt to pass the bar examination back in 2007-2008 as evidence of his past shortcomings.
Furthermore, she accused Abdourahmane Diouf of entering the political arena out of pure self-interest rather than a desire to serve the public. Despite the intense rhetoric, she wrapped up her message by urging Pastef supporters to remain united, calling on all patriots to stay focused on building a sovereign, prosperous, and equitable Sénégal.
