Liamidi Odouchinan elected new mayor of Pobè in Bénin
The communal council of Pobè convened this Wednesday, July 8, to elect Liamidi Odouchinan as the new mayor. He steps into the role previously held by Clément Kouchadé, who was appointed Minister of Secondary Education last May.

The commune of Pobè in Bénin has officially welcomed its new municipal leader. During a session held this Wednesday, July 8, the communal council unanimously elected Liamidi Odouchinan to head the local executive. This election concludes the transitional period initiated by the previous mayor, Clément Kouchadé’s, move to a governmental role.
Liamidi Odouchinan, a prominent member of the Union Progressiste Le Renouveau (UP Le Renouveau) party, previously served on the communal council as Clément Kouchadé’s alternate. He also held the significant position of chief of staff for the former mayor, demonstrating his deep familiarity with the commune’s administrative operations.
His ascension to the council followed Clément Kouchadé’s appointment as Minister of Secondary Education, Technical and Vocational Training within the government. This new cabinet was formed on May 24 by President Romuald Wadagni, creating a vacancy in the mayoral office of Pobè.
During the interim period, prior to Odouchinan’s election, the responsibilities of the mayoral office were entrusted to the first deputy mayor, Koukpo Zinsou Côme. This measure, formally established by a prefectural decree on June 1, 2026, ensured the seamless continuity of essential communal administration.
With his official election, Liamidi Odouchinan now assumes full leadership of Pobè’s municipal affairs. He is tasked with steering the commune’s strategic initiatives, advancing ongoing local development projects, and enhancing the provision of essential public services to the community.
