A shocking act of violence unfolded around 5 PM near the Goudjé Barrière roundabout in N’Djamena, Chad. The incident occurred as traffic police officers were diligently working to manage the flow of vehicles and prevent significant congestion during peak hours.

Initial reports indicate that the driver of a Toyota Corolla, equipped with tinted windows, attempted to disregard traffic instructions and force his way through. A traffic brigade officer intervened, seeking to ensure compliance with the established regulations. This attempt to reason with the driver quickly escalated into a heated altercation.

The individual, later identified as an active police officer who had recently been removed from his post at the 3rd arrondissement police station, allegedly drew a pistol. He reportedly fired a warning shot into the air before directing his weapon at the officers. Two agents sustained gunshot wounds, with one being struck near the ear. Fortunately, police sources confirm that their injuries are not life-threatening.

During the chaotic intervention, officers managed to subdue the aggressor and secure his firearm. However, before he was fully neutralized, the individual also reportedly inflicted a knife wound to the forehead of another police officer, right in front of the Goudjé Barrière roundabout.

The injured officers received immediate medical attention, being swiftly transported to a nearby health facility. Their condition is being closely monitored, though early assessments offer reassurance regarding the victims who suffered gunshot wounds.

The assailant was subsequently handcuffed and taken into custody at the Police secours headquarters, under the General Directorate of Police. Several officers present during the incident indicated that the individual appeared to be in a state of intoxication at the time of the attack.

An official investigation has been launched to determine the precise circumstances surrounding this alarming incident, which caused considerable distress among both commuters and law enforcement personnel at the scene.
