Algerian Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb met with Niger’s President, General Abdourahamane Tiani, in Niamey this Wednesday.
During the meeting, Ghrieb conveyed warm greetings from Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, reaffirming Algeria’s commitment to deepening solidarity and cooperation ties between the two nations.
Landmark power plant project takes shape ahead of schedule
The discussions centered on reviewing bilateral cooperation progress and assessing outcomes from President Tiani’s February visit to Algeria, where key agreements were reached with President Tebboune. Both sides also revisited the decisions made during the second session of the Algerian-Nigerien High Joint Commission in March, held in Niamey.
President Tiani expressed strong appreciation for President Tebboune’s leadership in advancing the power plant project—a landmark initiative completed in record time. This achievement highlights the robust partnership between the two countries and their shared determination to build a diverse, mutually beneficial alliance that aligns with the developmental aspirations of their peoples.
South-South cooperation at its finest
President Tiani praised the rapid progress of joint projects, calling the Algerian-Nigerien cooperation model a leading example of South-South collaboration. He emphasized the two leaders’ shared goal of elevating bilateral relations to new heights through sustained political will and rigorous implementation of agreed-upon initiatives.
Prime Minister Ghrieb commended the swift progress in cooperation, noting that the relationship has entered a new phase marked by effective political alignment and tangible project execution. This milestone is attributed to the strategic guidance of both governments and their commitment to closely monitoring the jointly established roadmap.
Regional stability and economic integration take center stage
Ghrieb reaffirmed Algeria’s dedication to strengthening bilateral ties across key sectors, including energy, hydrocarbons, infrastructure, healthcare, education, digital technology, and transportation. He stressed the importance of advancing critical regional projects to bolster economic development and deepen regional integration.
The talks also covered trade and economic cooperation programs, with both sides stressing the need to expedite implementation to support regional growth. At the regional level, the leaders addressed current challenges, underscoring the importance of continued bilateral coordination to enhance peace, security, and stability in the area.
