During a public address in Touba this Sunday, Ousmane Sonko, the President of the National Assembly, issued a stern warning to Prime Minister Ahmadou Al Aminou Lô, reiterating the potential for a motion of censure against his administration. As the influential leader of Pastef, a party commanding a significant majority within the National Assembly, Sonko underscored the availability of this constitutional mechanism should circumstances necessitate its deployment.
It is worth noting that the National Assembly President had previously cautioned the executive branch against expecting a “blank check,” while simultaneously affirming his reluctance to wield this power merely to “orchestrate institutional chaos.” However, his recent statements in Touba reveal an intensified resolve, coming amid heightened political tensions stemming from the annulment of the constitutional revision and his outspoken criticisms directed at President Diomaye Faye.
