PSG’s Champions League final rematch attracts fewer viewers than last year’s historic win
Paris Saint-Germain did not break any television records this time around. Last season, their commanding 5-0 victory over Inter Milan in the Champions League final drew an average of 11.5 million viewers—a figure that stood as a benchmark for football finals in France.
This year’s rematch against Arsenal fell short of that milestone. While 6.2 million viewers tuned in to M6 for the match, with a peak of 13.5 million during the final moments, and an additional 2.9 million watched on Canal+, the combined audience was over 2 million lower than the previous season’s broadcast.
The decline in viewership can be attributed to overlapping schedules with Moïse Kouamé’s third-round match at Roland-Garros, which began at 4:15 PM. Football fans faced a tough choice: catch Kouamé’s high-stakes tennis match or switch to the Champions League final at 6:00 PM.
3 million viewers for Kouamé’s match
Moïse Kouamé’s clash with Alejandro Tabilo on the Suzanne-Lenglen court drew 3 million viewers, proving just how captivating the young French talent’s run was. Though the 17-year-old ultimately fell in four sets (6-4, 3-6, 4-6, 6-7[9-11]), his performance kept audiences engaged—even as the Champions League final kicked off at 6:00 PM.
“I caught the penalties! I saw the worst moment, I think,” Kouamé joked in his post-match press conference, wearing his PSG jersey. “It’s a small consolation for my loss,” he added with a smile, reflecting on his tough defeat.
