Senegal’s president unveils new party ‘KIIRAAY’ to reshape political landscape

On Saturday, July 25, President Bassirou Diomaye Faye of Senegal inaugurated his latest political entity, KIIRAAY – Les Patriotes Républicains, in Dakar, signaling a pivotal shift in the nation’s political dynamics following his departure from the PASTEF, led by his former mentor, Ousmane Sonko.

The party’s formation was unveiled during its foundational general assembly, held at a prominent hotel in the capital. Adopting the motto « La Patrie d’abord » (Nation First), KIIRAAY positions itself as a defender of national interests, a champion of republican institutions, and a steadfast advocate for the rule of law.

The term Kiiraay in Wolof translates to “what protects,” a deliberate choice reflecting the party’s mission to safeguard Senegal’s progress while uniting citizens behind President Faye’s transformative governance agenda.
