President Romuald Wadagni is moving to restructure the Béninese state apparatus, abolishing multiple agencies that were created under Patrice Talon’s administration.
This wave of dissolutions, targeting culture and tourism, is part of a broader rationalization of state structures. It signals the administration’s intent to put its own stamp on governance.
Agencies abolished include the Agency for Development of Arts and Culture (Adac), Bénin Tourisme, and the National Agency for Heritage Promotion and Tourism Development (Anpt). The latter had been the government’s operational arm for positioning Bénin as a leading tourist destination.
The stated aim is to end resource fragmentation and streamline national administration. While the presidential decree sets the framework, details on the transfer of responsibilities from the dissolved agencies and the fate of their employees are still pending from competent authorities.
With this bold political move in the early months of his tenure, Wadagni is setting the tone for his governance and demonstrating his commitment to rationalizing the state machinery.
