Chad to scrap visas for Africans in 2027

Starting January 1, 2027, all African nationals will be granted visa-free entry into Chad. This landmark decision was unveiled by President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno during the African Water Forum in N’Djamena, signaling a bold step toward deepening continental integration and mobility.

Chad is set to redefine its diplomatic stance by removing entry barriers for travelers from across Africa. During a high-profile gathering of African leaders and influential figures in N’Djamena, the country’s president announced a sweeping visa exemption policy that could reshape travel dynamics on the continent.

Under this new policy, citizens of every African nation will enjoy unrestricted access to Chad without the need for a visa. The move underscores Chad’s commitment to fostering stronger ties with its neighbors and promoting the ideals of African unity.

The president emphasized Chad’s strategic role as a crossroads of Africa, where diverse cultures converge, and historic connections span from West to East and North to South. Speaking from the podium, he highlighted the nation’s legacy as a welcoming land of integration and a champion of continental solidarity.

In his address, the head of state framed the policy as a historic leap for Chad, declaring: « Chad, the land of Toumaï and humanity’s cradle, is opening its doors to all Africans. From this moment forward, entry visas will no longer be required for any traveler from the continent beginning January 1, 2027. »

This progressive initiative positions Chad among a select group of African countries that have embraced visa-free travel for Africans. It aligns the nation with peers like Benin, Togo, Rwanda, Ghana, Gambia, Seychelles, and the Republic of the Congo, which have recently adopted similar measures.
