Côte d’Ivoire’s coffee and cocoa sector prepares for new campaign with crucial price announcements

The highly anticipated 2026-2027 coffee and cocoa marketing season in Côte d’Ivoire is set to commence officially on Tuesday, September 1, 2026. This pivotal launch coincides with the 10th annual National Cocoa and Chocolate Days (JNCC), an event hosted at Abidjan’s Exhibition Park, where vital farmgate prices will be revealed.

The announcement of these new prices, a critical moment for the nation’s agricultural sector, will be delivered by Vice-President Tiémoko Meyliet Koné, acting on behalf of President Alassane Ouattara.

Reflecting on the preceding seasons, the main campaign for 2025-2026, which spanned from October 2025 to February 2026, saw a record-setting farmgate price of 2,800 FCFA per kilogram. However, the subsequent intermediate campaign, running from March to August 2026, witnessed a reduction to 1,200 FCFA per kilogram. This adjustment was necessitated by a downturn in international cocoa market prices.

Côte d’Ivoire maintains its prominent global standing as the foremost cocoa producer, contributing approximately 40% of the world’s total supply.

National production for the 2025-2026 campaign reached an estimated 2.2 million tonnes. This period was notably characterized by significant volatility in export markets and the government’s intervention to purchase around 123,000 tonnes of surplus beans, amidst a temporary slowdown in global commercial activity.

Looking ahead to the 2026-2027 campaign, production prospects face potential challenges from adverse climatic conditions and the aging of existing plantations. Certain market forecasts indicate a possible decline in Ivorian production, with figures projected to hover around 1.8 million tonnes.

Scheduled from September 1 to 3, the 10th edition of the JNCC represents a cornerstone event for the entire coffee and cocoa value chain. It provides an essential platform for dialogue, recognizing innovative initiatives, and strengthening partnerships among institutional, economic, and professional stakeholders.

This landmark anniversary edition is poised to usher in a new chapter in the history of the JNCC. It will facilitate crucial meetings, foster the exchange of valuable experiences, promote local expertise, and connect diverse participants within the sector.

The comprehensive program for the JNCC includes a series of conferences, expert panels, exhibition spaces, dedicated business meetings, and networking sessions. The overarching aim is to solidify the JNCC’s role as a preeminent platform for fostering dialogue, driving innovation, encouraging cooperation, and ensuring the sustained growth of the sector.

Furthermore, the 10th edition will offer an opportune moment to review the achievements of previous gatherings, underscore the progress made, and chart new directions for the sustainable development and enhanced competitiveness of Côte d’Ivoire’s vital coffee and cocoa industry.
