The Ouragahio municipal council, under the leadership of Mayor Dr. Pierre Dacoury-Tabley, recently conducted a comprehensive review of its women’s empowerment strategy. This evaluation took place during a special “Mother’s Day” tribute ceremony on Saturday, July 4, 2026, held at the town hall courtyard, with Sub-Prefect Tié-Bi Assi Apo Josiane presiding over the event.
Key initiatives focused on diverse areas, including essential literacy programs and fundamental accounting skills training for women involved in trade. Furthermore, significant attention was given to maternal and child healthcare services, alongside the expansion of maternity units and health centers across the commune. Mayor Dacoury-Tabley emphasized that ensuring the well-being of mothers was paramount, enabling them to actively pursue and achieve their own economic and social empowerment.
In the realm of commerce, Dr. Dacoury-Tabley highlighted the commencement of construction for a new gastronomic hub, featuring multiple retail spaces. This ambitious project aims to provide a platform for Ouragahio’s women to showcase their exceptional culinary talents and quality, ultimately empowering these mothers to generate sustainable income and improve their livelihoods.
The municipality’s commitment to women’s empowerment also extends to the agricultural sector. Through dedicated projects, women working in the fields receive vital support, including the provision of agricultural laborers and essential workers to assist with their farming endeavors.
Dr. Dacoury further detailed the establishment of school canteens in every educational institution, which are now supplied directly by the industrious efforts of “valiant women” working in local fields. These women, who are direct beneficiaries of projects funded and implemented by the Ouragahio municipality, are responsible for producing and processing the food consumed in these school canteens. Additionally, the local administration has eased tax burdens for women establishing businesses, thereby facilitating their entry into entrepreneurship.
Seizing the opportunity presented by the gathering, Mayor Dacoury-Tabley personally distributed gifts to each of the 600 mothers who attended, representing various neighborhoods and the 11 villages within the Ouragahio commune. The commune’s chief magistrate expressed his delight, noting that “when women come together, it fosters collective reflection, promotes a positive work environment, and, most importantly, significantly enhances overall effectiveness.”
