Ousmane Sonko, the president of Pastef, firmly called on his supporters to stop using insults and mocking nicknames directed at authorities. He denounced such behaviour as counterproductive and urged them to focus instead on a debate centred solely on ideas and the party’s programme.
Speaking at a rally held at Dakar Arena, the leader of the Patriots warned his followers against the trap of personal attacks. According to him, these taunts could be manipulated to create legal grievances and lead to the imprisonment of those responsible. Sonko thus urged the youth and sympathisers of the ruling party to raise the level of political debate by staying focused on programmatic proposals and engaging in constructive clashes of ideas.
Setting the new strategic direction for the party, Sonko — who also serves as president of the National Assembly — instructed his troops to concentrate on ground-level work. He encouraged them to travel across the entire national territory to expand and sustainably strengthen the party’s bases. Finally, emphasising the organisational future of Pastef, he reminded members of the urgent need to reinforce their political and intellectual training in order to consolidate the party’s republican foundation.
