In a significant political development, Serigne Habib Sy has formally announced his allegiance to Pastef, the party led by Ousmane Sonko. This declaration unfolded during a recent meeting with Sonko in Diaksao, where Sy not only expressed his intention to acquire a party membership card but also openly affirmed his public support for the influential political movement.
Ahead of the revered Mawlid celebration in Tivaouane, Ousmane Sonko, who serves as both the President of the National Assembly and the leader of Pastef, undertook a visit to Diaksao. This visit was part of his customary engagements with various religious figures. During his reception by Serigne Habib Sy, the esteemed spiritual guide seized the opportunity to publicly confirm his affiliation with the current ruling party.
Addressing his distinguished guest, the religious leader unequivocally stated his desire to formalize his membership with Pastef. “I consider myself a member of Pastef. I plan to purchase a membership card very soon. However, I am currently unaware of the process for joining through the online platform,” Serigne Habib Sy conveyed. In response, Ousmane Sonko promptly assured him of his assistance, stating, “I will personally deliver your membership card to you.”
This public commitment by Serigne Habib Sy aligns with his established history of civic engagement. The son of the late Mame Abdou Aziz Sy Dabakh, he previously joined the “Y en a marre” movement in February 2021. Years later, he now openly demonstrates his partnership with Pastef, signaling his intent to officially become a member of the party.
