The head coach of the Sénégal U17 national team, Lamine Sané, has officially released the list of 23 players selected for the CAN U17 2026. This prestigious continental tournament is scheduled to take place in Morocco from May 13 to June 2, 2026.
Continuity and experience in the Lionceaux squad
The former international coach has chosen to rely on a core group of experienced players who have already participated in continental and regional (UFOA) competitions. In goal, Assane Sarr from Ndangane FC returns to Morocco as the primary goalkeeper. He will be supported by Daouda Alassane Ba of Génération Foot and Mamadou D. Gueye from Diambars FC.
The defensive line features several reliable names. Cheikh Thior (Oslo FA) will make his CAN debut after competing in the UFOA U17 tournament in Bamako. He is joined by Cheikh Dieng (Diambars FC), a returning player from the previous edition and a UFOA winner in Mali. The defensive unit is completed by:
- Amadou Bamba Kane (Diambars FC)
- Thierno Sow (United Académie)
- Cheikh Tidiane Diallo (United Académie)
- Lamine Mbengue (Génération Foot)
- Abdourahmane Dieye (Keur Madior FC)
A midfield bolstered by regional champions
In the middle of the park, Lamine Sané has called up players with proven track records. Mahamet Ba (Diambars FC) and Souleymane C. Faye (Be Sport), both winners of the UFOA U17 tournament in Mali, will provide vital experience. They are joined in the midfield by Maurice Biaye (AF Darou Salam), Emile Niaga Sadio (Essamaye FC), El Hadji Ibrahima Sow (Dakar Sacré-Cœur), and Sébastien Nogueira (Génération Foot).
Attacking options and a notable injury absence
For the offensive sector, the experience of Mouhamed Wagne (Diambars FC) will be a major asset. Having participated in the last CAN, he will lead an attack that includes:
- Séga Fall Mbodji and Daouda Fofana (Génération Foot)
- Magueye Niang (Guelwaars FC)
- Abdoulaye Diop (AC Mawade Wade)
- Ibrahima Dione (HLM Dakar)
- Cheikh Omar Sy (Castor FC)
However, the squad faces a significant loss. Bara Gueye of Oslo FA, who was named the best player of the last African Schools Football Championship U15 won by Sénégal in Zimbabwe, is missing from the final list. Despite being initially shortlisted, he was forced to withdraw due to an injury sustained during the training camp.
To finalize their preparations before arriving in Morocco, the Lionceaux will travel to Tunisia for a friendly match against the Tunisian national team.
