The United States Ambassador to Morocco, Richard Duke Buchan III, expressed deep honor during a recent meeting with elected officials from Morocco’s southern provinces, held on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of American independence.
In a post shared on X following the event, he stated, “We are grateful to our partners from Laâyoune and Dakhla for joining us at the celebration in Rabat. Your presence underscores our shared commitment to peace and progress in this region.”
Symbolic gathering strengthens transatlantic ties
The ceremony, held at the historic Chellah site in Rabat on June 9, 2026, brought together prominent Moroccan and foreign figures. Ambassador Buchan emphasized the enduring partnership between the two nations, rooted in decades of cooperation.
He highlighted the vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, which positions the Southern Provinces as a hub for transatlantic economic and strategic opportunities. “This partnership, forged in history and reinforced by trust, is poised to shape the next 250 years.”
Key figures unite for regional development
The meeting included Moulay Hamdi Old Errechid, President of the Laâyoune commune, Ynja El Khattat, President of the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab regional council, and Sidi Hamdi Oild Errechid, President of the Laayoune Sakia El Hamra region. Their participation reflects the growing regional engagement in Morocco’s development initiatives.
