Us backs Morocco’s sovereignty over western Sahara in historic stance

During the 27th anniversary of the Throne Day celebrations, King Mohammed VI received a message from U.S. President Donald Trump. In it, Trump reaffirmed Washington’s unwavering stance on the Western Sahara dispute and endorsed Morocco’s autonomy plan as the path forward.

In his written communication, Trump stated that the United States formally recognizes Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara. He emphasized that the Moroccan autonomy proposal represents a serious, credible, and realistic framework for achieving a fair and lasting solution to the long-standing conflict.

«Any alternative approach only perpetuates the current stalemate,» Trump wrote, calling such a scenario «unacceptable.» He stressed that the dispute must reach a resolution without delay, and that the U.S. will actively drive progress toward this goal.

The American president also extended his congratulations to the Moroccan monarch and people, highlighting two and a half centuries of unbroken diplomatic and friendship ties. He described this alliance as a bond «built on trust and mutual respect,» underscoring its historical significance.

Trump praised King Mohammed VI’s visionary leadership, describing him as a cornerstone of regional stability. He highlighted Morocco’s pivotal role in fostering peace, combating extremism, and safeguarding shared security—particularly through the Abraham Accords. Additionally, he announced plans to deepen collaboration aimed at strengthening security across the Sahel region.

On the economic front, Trump directed his administration to pursue enhanced partnerships with Morocco, including within Western Sahara. He pointed to key sectors such as advanced technology, sustainable energy, artificial intelligence, critical minerals, and defense as focal points for future cooperation.

Concluding his message, Trump envisioned a new era of bilateral relations, one centered on mutual prosperity and shared strategic interests.
