Yan Diomandé chooses PSG over Liverpool in summer transfer shock

Yan Diomandé, the RB Leipzig winger pursued by multiple top European clubs, has reportedly chosen Paris Saint-Germain as his next destination, despite strong interest from Liverpool. The 21-year-old Ivorian had earlier expressed his preference for Liverpool, stating, “I want to play for Liverpool. I am a huge Liverpool fan. My father dreams of seeing me play at Anfield one day. That is also my dream, and I want to achieve it.” However, in recent hours, he has apparently decided to join PSG, a move that looks set to become the transfer of the summer. The decision has left English football stunned.

English press reacts to Diomandé’s choice

English media outlets are ruing the news. “A blow to Liverpool’s transfer hopes. Diomandé has chosen PSG as his next club if a summer move from Leipzig materialises. Missing out on the top transfer target is a heavy setback for Liverpool. There is no reason to celebrate. Liverpool suffers another defeat to PSG. After learning that Yan Diomandé had picked PSG, Liverpool appears to have taken another hit against the French giants. Maghnes Akliouche had already agreed to join PSG,” wrote one major Liverpool-based newspaper.

“Liverpool seems to have suffered another blow against the French giant”

The sentiment is echoed across the English press. “Yan Diomandé has selected Paris Saint-Germain as his preferred next club, snubbing Liverpool’s interest. As Liverpool tried to secure the player, they faced competition from PSG and ultimately lost out. Diomandé’s decision is an early setback for Iraola’s transfer plans, though the Spaniard has been proactive in the market, already adding another winger in compatriot Victor Muñoz,” noted a London-based publication, adding that some Liverpool supporters were “disgusted” by Diomandé’s choice.
