Algeria and Niger strengthen energy ties with Jet A1 exports

Algeria and Niger have taken a significant step forward in regional energy integration, forging stronger commercial and strategic bonds between the two Sahel nations.

Through a deepened partnership between Algeria’s Sonatrach and Niger’s Sonidep, the two countries are opening a new chapter in cross-border cooperation. The milestone comes as Sonatrach begins delivering aviation fuel Jet A1 to Niger’s market, marking a key operational breakthrough in their bilateral agreements.

First Jet A1 shipments from Adrar refinery

The inaugural consignments of Jet A1 have now been dispatched from the Adrar refinery (RA1D), formalizing the sale and purchase agreement between Sonatrach and Sonidep. This marks the official start of regular fuel deliveries, aligning with Algeria’s strategic goal of stabilizing the Sahel’s energy supply through dependable petroleum exports.

Joint marketing of Niger’s ‘Meleck’ crude oil in Benin

Beyond fuel supplies, the collaboration extends to international oil trade. A major achievement was recorded at Benin’s Sèmè terminal, where Sonatrach and Sonidep jointly oversaw the loading of Niger’s first commercial shipment of ‘Meleck’ crude oil. This initiative highlights the growing role of Algerian expertise in facilitating cross-border energy commerce across West Africa.
