The government of Bénin is advancing its efforts to regulate the civil engineering sector by formalizing the National Order of Civil Engineers of Bénin. In an official statement released on June 30, 2026, Georges Alé, the Minister of Living Environment and Transport, confirmed that the registration period for the professional roll has been extended.
Legal framework and registration extension
This decision aligns with the regulatory requirements established by Article 65 of Decree No. 2021-300, which was enacted on June 9, 2021, to organize the civil engineering profession. The ministry noted that the timeframe for initiating the enrollment process has been officially pushed back to allow more professionals to comply with the new standards.
Targeted expertise and eligibility
The census is open to all Béninese civil engineers, whether they are currently practicing within Bénin or living abroad. To qualify for the first official roll of the Order, candidates must hold a recognized engineering degree, a professional master’s degree accredited by the state and CAMES, or an equivalent qualification. The registration covers a broad spectrum of technical specialties, including:
- Buildings and public works (BTP) and geotechnics
- Transport and energy infrastructure
- Hydraulics, sanitation, and environmental engineering
- Electronics, information technology, and telecommunications
Final deadline for submission
Eligible professionals are invited to submit their applications through the dedicated digital platform. The authorities have granted an additional thirty (30) days from the date the communiqué was signed to complete this administrative formality. This initiative is a vital step in establishing the 1st Table of the National Order of Civil Engineers of Bénin, ensuring that all practicing engineers meet the required legal and professional criteria.
