Following a second consecutive extension, the government has announced an additional period to finalize the nationwide population and housing census. The decision, outlined in a decree by Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute, aims to reach households, individuals, and agricultural holdings that may have been overlooked.

In Yaoundé and Douala, residents report that enumerators have not visited entire neighborhoods, particularly newly developed areas not yet reflected in official mapping databases.

According to the census commission, only 60.4% of the population has been recorded since the campaign began in April. The prolonged process has faced multiple obstacles, including delayed payments to field agents, which have sparked dissatisfaction, as well as low participation rates in some households. Language barriers and security concerns in high-risk zones further complicate the operation.

Officials emphasize the importance of this fourth national census to accurately assess demographic trends, housing conditions, and agricultural resources across the country.
