Côte d’Ivoire: laurent gbagbo strengthens PPA-CI leadership with new appointments

Laurent Gbagbo, the former Ivorian Head of State and current President of the Parti des Peuples Africains-Côte d’Ivoire (PPA-CI), announced a significant restructuring of his political party’s leadership on Monday. In a released statement, Mr. Gbagbo confirmed the appointment of four Vice-Presidents and a President for the Strategic and Political Council (CSP), outlining their specific responsibilities within the party’s framework.

Assoa Adou has been designated as the First Vice-President, tasked with upholding the party’s core principles. His mandate includes ensuring strict adherence to the PPA-CI’s Statutes and Internal Regulations, as well as verifying that all party structures operate in line with its established guidelines and orientations.

The role of Second Vice-President has been assigned to Oulaye Hubert, who will oversee the Party’s internal affairs. He has been delegated the authority to preside over sessions of the Central Committee, in accordance with the provisions of the Statutes, Internal Regulations, and directives issued by the Party President.

Ackan Emmanuel steps into the position of Third Vice-President, with a mission to invigorate the Party’s outreach and political activities. He is responsible for boosting its dynamism and broadening the impact of its initiatives. Additionally, Mr. Emmanuel will manage the PPA-CI’s interactions with national institutions, always aligning with the strategic political guidance set by the Party’s leadership.

Taking on the mantle of Fourth Vice-President, Justin Koné Katinan will be instrumental in shaping the Party’s overarching policy. His duties involve guiding, coordinating, and monitoring the implementation of this policy, alongside leading efforts related to the development of the government program.

Furthermore, Laurent Gbagbo appointed Sébastien Dano Djedje as the President of the Strategic and Political Council (CSP). In this capacity, Mr. Djedje is entrusted with the overall direction and supervision of the political formation.

Explaining these pivotal changes, the leader of the PPA-CI articulated, “This decision to distribute the exercise of certain prerogatives among these five key officials reflects our commitment to fostering a more collective leadership. It is a model built on complementary responsibilities and unified action.”

He emphasized his belief that “the true strength of the Party does not reside in a single individual, but rather in the collective capacity of its leaders and members to collaborate towards a shared vision.”

The former President had previously signaled his intention to reorganize the Party’s Directorate to enhance its operational efficiency, effectiveness, and capacity for action. This announcement was made during the PPA-CI Renaissance Celebration held on May 16 in Songon M’Bratté.
