A shift in Côte d’Ivoire’s political landscape unfolds as former President Laurent Gbagbo revamps the leadership structure of his party, the Popular Front of Côte d’Ivoire (PPA-CI). Initially, Gbagbo hinted at delegating some authority to a single figure. Instead, five seasoned party members now share key responsibilities at the highest level.

Assoa Adou, a long-standing PPA-CI figure, takes the helm as first vice-president. His mandate focuses on ensuring strict adherence to the party’s ideological principles and strategic direction.

Hubert Oulaye assumes the role of second vice-president, tasked with overseeing internal party operations and presiding over central committee meetings. His experience in party management positions him as a key figure in maintaining organizational cohesion.

Gbagbo frames this reorganization as a transition toward a more collegial leadership model, emphasizing the synergy of shared responsibilities and unified action. “The strength of this team lies in its diversity of expertise and collective commitment to advancing our vision,” he stated.

Political analyst Abdourahmane Barry offers a nuanced perspective on the reshuffle. While acknowledging the significance of these appointments, he cautions against interpreting them as a fundamental shift in power dynamics. “These individuals will handle day-to-day operations, but ultimate authority and decision-making remain firmly with Laurent Gbagbo,” Barry explains. “The leadership structure is evolving, but the core remains unchanged.”
