French-Moroccan bonds strengthened at Rabat’s Bastille Day celebration
On the evening of July 14, 2026, the French Residency in Rabat transformed into a vibrant hub of diplomacy and celebration as over 1,500 guests gathered to mark the French National Holiday. The event, graced by the presence of high-ranking Moroccan officials, underscored the deepening ties between the two nations.
At the heart of the evening was Philippe Lalliot, France’s ambassador to Morocco, who delivered a speech emphasizing the renewed and balanced partnership between the two countries. Addressing the diverse audience, he described the alliance as “a modernized partnership designed for today’s challenges and tomorrow’s opportunities.”
The ambassador, accompanied by his wife Laurence Folliot Lalliot, welcomed guests including Mohamed Saad Berrada, Morocco’s Minister of National Education, Preschool, and Sports, who represented the government. The gathering also brought together Moroccan officials and foreign diplomats accredited in the Kingdom.
Revitalizing a historic friendship
Lalliot highlighted the human dimension of the Morocco-France relationship, calling it a legacy to be nurtured and expanded. “This friendship is our shared heritage,” he remarked. “It is our collective responsibility to nurture it, strengthen it, and ensure it flourishes for future generations.”
Reflecting on his recent travels across Morocco—from Casablanca and Tangier to Marrakech and Laâyoune, where he inaugurated the city’s first Alliance Française—he praised Morocco’s forward-thinking vision. “Across these cities, we are not just talking about the future—we are actively building it, step by step.”
A moment of cultural celebration
The evening’s proceedings featured performances by the Moroccan Philharmonic Orchestra and DJ Retro Cassetta, adding a touch of festivity to the diplomatic gathering. The blend of cultural exchange and high-level dialogue reflected the multifaceted nature of the Morocco-France relationship.
