Tshisekedi urged to calm drc constitutional debate tensions

$Le Président Félix Tshisekedi à l’ouverture de la première édition de la Semaine nationale du climat, le 27/10/2025 Présidence RDC”> As debate over a possible constitutional reform intensifies, the human rights organisation Voix des sans voix (VSV) is urging President Félix Tshisekedi to personally step in and ease the political climate in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. In a statement issued Wednesday, June 24 in Kinshasa, the VSV warned that the current atmosphere could lead to heightened tensions and potential human rights violations if measures to calm the situation are not taken promptly. Tshisekedi’s key role The VSV believes the head of state is best positioned to promote reconciliation and safeguard national unity, especially at a time when the eastern part of the country remains plagued by ongoing insecurity. The organisation called on authorities to reinforce messages of national cohesion and to urge their supporters to avoid rhetoric that could deepen divisions among the population. For the VSV, political leaders from all sides must show restraint to prevent further escalation. They stressed that the nation’s best interests should prevail over partisan or communal considerations. In its communiqué, the VSV noted that the DRC is navigating a particularly delicate phase due to the security crisis in the east. In this context, preserving national unity and strengthening Congolese cohesion is deemed essential. The group also cautioned against speeches that could fuel political, ethnic, or regional fractures, asserting that no affiliation should take precedence over the national interest. Call for democratic principles Finally, the VSV invited all political actors to respect democratic principles, human rights, and fundamental freedoms. It emphasised that the country’s stability largely depends on the ability of leaders and their followers to prioritise dialogue and political responsibility. According to the organisation, an intervention by the President in favour of easing tensions could help reduce conflict and prevent further deterioration of the political climate. <div class=$
