Le Mans promoted to Ligue 1 as Bastia relegated to Ligue 3

The LFP disciplinary board confirmed on Wednesday evening the 0-2 victory of Le Mans over Bastia, securing their promotion to Ligue 1. In response to crowd disturbances at the Corsican club’s stadium, Bastia faces two closed-doors matches and one with a suspended closure. No point deduction was applied despite prior warnings.

The disciplinary meeting in Paris validated the scoreline from Bastia’s stadium, where Le Mans secured a historic 0-2 win on the final matchday of Ligue 2. With just seconds remaining, referee Ruddy Buquet halted play and sent players to the locker rooms after fireworks and smoke bombs rained down from the stands.

Bastia avoids point deduction

Bastia was handed two immediate stadium closures and one suspended closure. However, the club narrowly avoided a point deduction, which was a looming possibility. Earlier this season, on December 5, the match against Red Star was abandoned after a smoke bomb struck a player on the field. Despite this history of misconduct, the LFP’s disciplinary president Sébastien Deneux explained: «Points are typically deducted when a match participant is directly affected by an incident. Since no one was hit during the Bastia-Le Mans game, we saw no grounds to revoke the suspended closure.»
