Three years ago, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) set a Ligue 1 record with Neymar’s transfer to Al-Hilal for €90 million. Now, Lille OSC (LOSC) president Olivier Létang is aiming to surpass that figure with 18-year-old Moroccan sensation Ayyoub Bouaddi.
Bouaddi’s stock skyrocketed during the recent World Cup, drawing interest from top European clubs. LOSC, however, sees him as a long-term cornerstone and is determined to secure his future. Olivier Létang emphasized the rarity of such talent, noting that few clubs can afford a player of Bouaddi’s caliber at just 18 years old.
Létang remains optimistic about Bouaddi’s future at LOSC
In a press conference, the Lille president suggested that the young midfielder could stay with the club for another season. «There are very few clubs today that can afford a player of Ayyoub’s quality, especially at 18,» he stated. «We discussed his future after the World Cup. While everything is possible, my strong belief is that he should remain with us. He seems eager to continue his journey here.»
LOSC aims to break Ligue 1 transfer records
The club is exploring all options to keep Bouaddi, though the competition is fierce. Premier League giants are reportedly monitoring the situation closely. Létang has not hidden his ambition to make Bouaddi the most expensive player ever sold by a Ligue 1 club. Insiders suggest he has compared the potential transfer to high-profile Premier League deals, such as Elliot Anderson’s move from Nottingham Forest to Manchester City for €135 million or Sandro Tonali’s transfer from Newcastle to Tottenham for €120 million.
