Moroccan authorities have activated comprehensive security measures to prevent any attempts at illegal border crossings into Ceuta and Melilla, targeting organizers of such actions. This announcement comes after recent social media activity and anonymous online posts called for a mass border breach on August 15.

In a press statement, El Khalfi confirmed that security forces have already detained a group of individuals suspected of inciting these actions. The detainees are undergoing judicial investigations under the supervision of the competent prosecution authorities. The Interior Ministry warned that these calls pose « severe risks to public safety » and constitute criminal offenses under the law. Authorities emphasized that both participants and organizers of these campaigns will face legal consequences.

The Interior Ministry stressed that security operations, coordinated by the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), are not limited to a specific timeline but represent a permanent and adaptive surveillance system along Ceuta and Melilla’s border areas. The measures are continuously reinforced and adjusted based on evolving circumstances and identified risks on the ground.

Moroccan authorities have called on the public to remain vigilant, avoid misleading instructions, and refrain from participating in dangerous actions that endanger lives. They reiterated that combating irregular migration must strictly adhere to legal frameworks.

Spain urged to facilitate minors’ repatriation

Official communications highlighted that addressing irregular migration and human trafficking requires a shared responsibility approach, with no single party bearing the burden alone.

In this context, the Interior Ministry formally called on Spanish authorities, within the framework of existing bilateral cooperation, to fulfill their commitments and accelerate the repatriation of unaccompanied minors currently in Ceuta to their families in Morocco. El Khalfi’s department urged Madrid to overcome administrative and judicial barriers delaying these returns while prioritizing the best interests of the minors involved.

Rabat also reaffirmed the importance of the immediate repatriation mechanism, citing its proven effectiveness in strengthening border interventions during previous operations.

Finally, Morocco’s Interior Ministry assured that authorities will continue to uphold public order and safety with firmness and responsibility, maintaining high levels of preparedness and constant coordination in full compliance with legal provisions.
