Talks between the two sides focused on the Kingdom of Morocco’s significant and exemplary role in United Nations peacekeeping operations.
Morocco’s contribution stems from a strategic royal vision rooted in its longstanding commitment to UN peacekeeping, a tradition that dates back to 1960.
Currently ranked ninth among the top troop-contributing countries to UN peacekeeping missions, Morocco holds the presidency of the UN Peacebuilding Commission for 2026 and serves as coordinator for the Non-Aligned Movement on peacekeeping issues. These positions reflect the international community’s trust in Morocco regarding matters of global peace and security.
The visit by Mr. Lacroix comes at a time when the UN Secretary-General has launched major reform initiatives, including the ‘UN 80’ initiative aimed at streamlining the Secretariat, as well as a comprehensive strategic review of all peacekeeping operations and the international peace and security architecture. The goal is to restore the primacy of political solutions in conflict management.
