On July 14 in Moscow, Tchad’s Foreign Minister Abdoulaye Sabre Fadoul highlighted his country’s eagerness to expand defense ties with Russia during a joint press conference with Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov. This partnership aims to enhance stability across the Sahara-Sahel belt, where rising security challenges demand closer collaboration. A key milestone was reached with the signing of a visa waiver agreement for diplomatic passport holders, signaling a significant step forward in bilateral relations.

During the discussions, Lavrov addressed global tensions, including accusations against Ukraine of what he termed terrorist activities in the Black and Azov Seas, and reiterated Russia’s commitment to counterterrorism cooperation with African nations. Tchad’s President Mahamat Idriss Déby is set to attend the Russia-Africa Summit in Moscow this October, further cementing his nation’s role in this growing alliance.

Minister Fadoul praised Russia’s contributions to stabilizing the Sahel region and expressed optimism that joint efforts with neighboring countries will yield tangible results in the fight against extremism and insecurity.
