US reaffirms strategic partnership with Morocco at throne celebration

In a formal message delivered to King Mohammed VI on the occasion of Morocco’s Throne Day celebrations, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio highlighted the enduring strength of the bilateral relationship between the two nations. The message commemorated the 27th anniversary of the King’s ascension to the throne, marking nearly two and a half centuries of diplomatic ties.

Shared values and long-standing alliance

The United States and Morocco share one of the oldest friendships in American history, built on mutual respect and a commitment to peace, security, and shared prosperity. As Rubio emphasized in his address, this partnership is not merely historical but a dynamic force shaping the future of both nations.

«On behalf of the American people, I extend warm greetings to His Majesty King Mohammed VI and the people of Morocco as we honor this significant milestone,» Rubio stated in the official communication.

Expanding cooperation across multiple sectors

Looking ahead, Rubio underscored the potential for deeper collaboration in the coming years, particularly in areas such as energy, artificial intelligence, critical minerals, and defense. He stressed that both countries are poised to deepen their economic and strategic partnership, fostering growth and stability for their citizens.

Morocco’s role in regional stability

Highlighting Morocco’s pivotal position in North Africa, Rubio praised the country’s leadership under King Mohammed VI, especially in advancing the Abrabam Accords. He noted that the Kingdom remains a cornerstone of regional security, contributing significantly to peace and stability across the continent.

«The United States places great importance on this partnership and looks forward to working closely with Morocco to enhance security in the Sahel,» Rubio remarked, reinforcing America’s commitment to the region.

Sahara issue: a path toward lasting resolution

Rubio reiterated the U.S. position on the Western Sahara, firmly supporting Morocco’s autonomy proposal as the only viable framework for a just and enduring solution. He dismissed alternative approaches, stating they would only prolong the status quo.

«A genuine autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty offers this region and the continent the opportunity to move forward after decades of stagnation,» he asserted. Rubio also highlighted the economic potential of the Sahara, emphasizing the Trump administration’s commitment to fostering development and social progress in the territory.

Building the next 250 years of partnership

As both nations celebrate their historic ties, Rubio concluded by reaffirming the U.S. as a steadfast ally in advancing shared interests. «As we look toward the next 250 years of friendship, the United States will remain Morocco’s trusted partner in shaping a future defined by stability, innovation, and prosperity,» he declared.
