A joint security commission executed an extensive cordon-and-search operation this Saturday, August 1, 2026, targeting numerous high-crime areas throughout N’Djamena. This coordinated intervention, which saw the deployment of multiple law enforcement agencies and security units—including the Garde nationale et nomade du Tchad (GNNT), the Gendarmerie nationale, the Police nationale, the Police judiciaire, and various specialized services—resulted in the apprehension of 252 individuals and the seizure of a range of illicit items and substances.

The operation strategically focused on specific districts identified as hotspots for criminal activity. These included Mandjakoli in the 5th arrondissement, Roma, Bildo, and Katanga within the 2nd arrondissement, as well as Colombie and other vulnerable neighborhoods across the capital.

According to Hachim Haroum Deby, the Director of Public Security, authorities successfully detained individuals involved in both the sale and consumption of various narcotic substances during the sweep. Among the contraband confiscated were drugs commonly referred to as “Colorado” and “Bongo,” alongside quantities of adulterated alcohol.

The mission was carried out under the direct oversight of the Director General of the Gendarmerie nationale, who also serves as the Deputy President of the Joint Control and Verification Commission. The 1st Deputy Police Controller General and the 2nd Deputy Commander of the Garde nationale et nomade du Tchad (GNNT) also played active roles in supervising the operation.

Following the intervention, all 252 apprehended individuals were presented to the press. Security forces also displayed a significant haul of seized assets, which included various weapons, computers, mobile phones, and 25 motorcycles.

The comprehensive report detailing the operation’s outcomes was subsequently submitted to the Minister of Public Security and Immigration, General d’Armée Ali Ahmat Aghabache.

This decisive action aligns with the ongoing commitment of the internal security forces to enhance citizen safety, uphold public order, and vigorously counter all forms of criminal behavior, with a particular emphasis on curbing the trafficking and consumption of illicit substances throughout the capital.
