French international striker Randal Kolo Muani has shared insights into his challenging spell with Tottenham Hotspur, revealing that his desire to return to Juventus significantly impacted his performances in North London.
The 27-year-old attacker, who completed a blockbuster return to Turin this summer, now holds the record for the most expensive French player in Juventus history. His move back to Serie A marks a fresh start after a turbulent season in England.
Missing the mark in the Premier League
Reflecting on his time at Tottenham, Kolo Muani admitted his focus wasn’t fully on football during his loan spell. The striker struggled to replicate the form that had once made him one of Europe’s most sought-after forwards.
« Several things didn’t go as planned. For me, it was more personal. I think my mind was elsewhere—I wanted to return to Juventus,» he explained. « That’s part of a player’s career—you can’t have a positive season every year. For me, it was a year where I learned a lot. I faced injuries, my first real setbacks, but thankfully I recovered from all of them. I believe all these factors contributed to my struggles, but now it’s a new league, a new chapter.»
His stint with Spurs saw him feature in 41 matches across all competitions, managing just five goals and four assists—a record that ultimately convinced the club against making his move permanent.
A summer of perseverance
The road to his Juventus return was anything but straightforward. Months of negotiations tested the patience of all parties involved, yet the striker remained steadfast in his conviction that an agreement would be reached.
« I was aware of the situation. I discussed it with my representatives and my family before finalizing everything,» he said. « The transfer window itself took time, but we worked hard to make it happen. I’m truly happy and proud to pull on this jersey again.»
Thrilled to work with Spalletti
Kolo Muani’s decision to rejoin Juventus was heavily influenced by the presence of manager Luciano Spalletti, who made the striker a key target for his tactical vision. The Frenchman is eager to prove himself under the Italian’s guidance, aligning with Spalletti’s attacking philosophy.
« Honestly, I was thrilled that the coach showed such eagerness for me to join. I know his coaching style, what he expects from attackers, and what he demands from his players,» Kolo Muani shared. « Wearing this shirt is an honor, and I’ll give everything to perform at my best and showcase my abilities.»
A season of scoring ambitions
With Spalletti reportedly tailoring a system to maximize Kolo Muani’s output, the striker is ready to embrace the challenge and deliver on the pitch.
« I’m happy to hear that. If that’s the method, then so be it! I’ll listen to everything he has to say, take all his advice, and give my all. I’m truly excited. If this is the plan, I’ll do everything to score as many goals as possible,» he concluded.
