Raphaël Edzang to be officially inaugurated as head of the RPG in Libreville

Raphaël Edzang, who was elected as party president on February 21, will formally take the reins of the Rassemblement pour le Gabon (RPG) this Saturday, June 27. The event is set to take place at the political organization’s headquarters in the Petit Paris district of Libreville.

The investiture ceremony will serve as a platform for the new leader to present his strategic vision, establish a roadmap for the coming years, and share his perspective on the nation’s most pressing current events.

A new era for the RPG

Under the leadership of the team succeeding Laurent Angué Mezui, the party has adopted a fresh slogan: “The RPG is change, and change is now.” Through this message, the new party head intends to inject a modern energy into the organization, prioritizing transparency, national development, and a closer connection to the daily concerns of the population.

Raphaël Edzang aims to re-establish the RPG as a pivotal political player and a primary source of constructive policy proposals within the country.

Profile of the new leader

An economist by profession and a high-ranking civil servant, Raphaël Edzang was born on October 25, 1970, in Ellelem 1, located in the Woleu Ntem province. His professional background includes significant tenure at the General Directorate of Public Procurement (DGMP), where he held the position of Director of Tendering.

His political ascent within the RPG began in 2009 when he served as a special advisor to the party president. Since joining, he has remained a steadfast figure within the movement, which selected him as a candidate for the legislative elections in 2011, 2018, 2023, and 2025.

The RPG was founded in the late 1990s by Paul Mba Abessole following the division of the Rassemblement national des bucherons (RNB). While it originally stood as a powerful opposition force, the party eventually joined the presidential majority during the administration of Omar Bongo Ondimba.
