Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), arrived in Libreville on Friday for an official visit aimed at deepening bilateral relations with Gabon. The Gabonese presidency confirmed the visit, highlighting its significance for regional cooperation between the two neighboring nations.
Upon landing, President Tshisekedi was greeted by enthusiastic crowds, who lined the streets to welcome him. The warm reception underscored the importance of this diplomatic mission.
His first official act was a solemn visit to the renovated Léon Mba Memorial, where he paid tribute to Gabon’s first president and independence leader. The ceremony included the laying of a wreath, a biographical presentation of Léon Mba, and a moment of silence accompanied by the national anthem.
The Gabonese presidency emphasized that the tribute aligns with efforts to honor historical figures who shaped Africa’s path to freedom. The visit concluded with President Tshisekedi signing the guestbook at the memorial.
On Saturday, he met with Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema at the presidential palace to discuss key bilateral issues. While no specific agenda was disclosed, the visit reflects the long-standing diplomatic engagement between Libreville and Kinshasa.
Both countries, members of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS), have maintained close ties through frequent high-level exchanges.
