Senegal u17 achieves friendly win against Tunisia in can build-up

As part of their rigorous Senegal U17 CAN preparation, the national team secured a narrow victory against Tunisia in a recent friendly encounter. The match, held at the Stade municipal de Hammam Lif, saw the young Senegalese squad, affectionately known as the “Lionceaux,” triumph with a 1-0 scoreline, courtesy of a decisive goal from Cheikh Omar Sy.

Following this positive result, coach Lamine Sané’s charges are set to travel to Morocco, where they will continue their intensive training regimen. This phase is crucial as they fine-tune their strategies before their highly anticipated debut in the U17 Africa Cup of Nations tournament. Their opening fixture is scheduled for May 14 at 4 PM, where they will face a formidable challenge from South Africa.

Senegal has been drawn into Group D for the competition, a challenging pool that also includes South Africa, Algeria, and Ghana. This promises an exciting start to their campaign.

Elsewhere in the tournament, defending champions Morocco find themselves in Group A, alongside Tunisia, Egypt, and Ethiopia. Group B will feature Côte d’Ivoire, Cameroon, Uganda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Meanwhile, Group C comprises Mali, Angola, Tanzania, and Mozambique, setting the stage for competitive matches across all groups.

The U17 Africa Cup of Nations tournament is slated to run from May 13 to June 2, 2026, with Morocco serving as the host nation for this prestigious youth football event.
