The strengthening of diplomatic ties between Lomé and Kinshasa has taken a significant step forward, with President Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé holding crucial talks in Pya on regional stability. The meeting, held on July 14, brought together the Togolese head of state with Floribert Anzuluni, Democratic Republic of Congo Minister of Regional Integration, during his official visit to Togo.
Diplomatic efforts focus on eastern DRC security challenges
At the heart of the high-level discussions was the deepening cooperation between the two nations. However, the escalating security crisis in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo dominated the agenda, with both leaders examining the most pressing threats and exploring pathways to restore peace in the Great Lakes region.
Togolese president praised for continental mediation role
Following the productive session, Minister Anzuluni conveyed Kinshasa’s appreciation for President Gnassingbé’s sustained commitment to resolving the regional conflict. As African Union mediator for the eastern DRC crisis, the Togolese leader has intensified consultations with key stakeholders to broker a lasting political solution.
“The Togolese approach to regional diplomacy has earned widespread respect, particularly in its efforts to stabilize the Great Lakes region,” Anzuluni noted, highlighting the importance of collaborative security frameworks.
The meeting in Pya underscores Togo‘s influential position in continental peacebuilding initiatives, reinforcing its reputation as a trusted diplomatic partner.
