Togo’s archival revival in Lomé: strengthening memory, justice, and governance

As government bodies worldwide accelerate their shift towards digital operations, Togo is making a concerted effort to re-establish the pivotal role of its national archives. In Lomé, a significant gathering of experts and authorities on International Archives Day initiated a crucial dialogue on the archives’ fundamental contribution to safeguarding rights, preserving collective memory, and bolstering public sector governance.

Beyond their undeniable historical value, archives serve as a powerful engine for transparency, justice, and administrative efficiency. These critical facets formed the core of discussions during a dedicated forum held on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at the Directorate of the National Library and Archives (DBAN). The event was themed: « Archives for Justice: Rights, Memory, and Futures ».
