Algeria donates 4 helicopters and military equipment to Niger

Acting on directives from the Algerian President and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, the Minister of National Defense, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, has authorized a strategic military aid package to be delivered to the Nigerien army. The consignment includes four state-of-the-art helicopters along with essential military equipment.

The donation was personally overseen by the Chief of Staff of the Algerian People’s National Army (ANP), General Saïd Chanegriha, who emphasized the importance of strengthening bilateral defense ties between Algeria and Niger. A formal statement from the Algerian Ministry of National Defense confirmed the handover.

The transfer involved two Mi-24V attack helicopters and two Mi-171 utility helicopters, which departed from the secondary deployment base in In Gezzam, located in the Sixth Military Region. The aircraft landed at Niamey’s international airport, where they were received by Nigerien defense officials.

In addition to the helicopters, the aid package included a shipment of specialized ammunition, spare parts for maintenance, and essential logistical support equipment, all transported by Algerian Air Force cargo planes to the same destination. The mission underscores Algeria’s commitment to deepening defense cooperation and enhancing regional security.

This gesture reaffirms Algeria’s ongoing dedication to fostering stability across the Sahel region through coordinated efforts with neighboring nations. By providing advanced military resources and training support, Algeria continues to play a pivotal role in promoting collective security initiatives.
