Bénin outlines strategic roadmap for 2026-2033 government action plan

The Government Action Plan (PAG) for the 2026-2033 period is nearing completion. Authorities have confirmed its unveiling will coincide with the political calendar in September.

According to spokesperson Léandre Wilfried Houngbédji, the upcoming seven-year plan aims to deepen ongoing reforms while introducing new priorities across social, economic, and security sectors.

The strategic framework is built on three fundamental pillars:

• Eradicating extreme poverty through targeted welfare programs and economic empowerment initiatives
• Reducing territorial disparities by accelerating development in underserved regions
• Strengthening national security with enhanced institutional and operational capacities

Governance restructuring for better efficiency

To ensure effective implementation, the government is reorganizing its operational structure. Key changes include:

• Monthly meetings of the Council of Ministers
• Bi-monthly interministerial committees
• Themed cabinet councils for specialized oversight

Inclusive approach through citizen consultations

The development of the PAG aligns with Bénin’s commitment to the Open Government Partnership. A nationwide consultation process will gather local input from all twelve departments, ensuring policies reflect regional realities.
