After extensive discussions, Borussia Dortmund has reportedly reached an agreement with Italian top-flight club Como 1907 regarding a transfer for Yan Couto. This significant development suggests the Brazilian defender is set to leave the Bundesliga side.

While Dortmund will not secure a direct sale for the player, a preliminary understanding for a loan deal is reportedly in place between the two clubs. The remaining step involves integrating a purchase option into the final agreement.

The journey for Couto at BVB began in 2024 with a loan from Manchester City, which included an easily activatable obligation to buy. Consequently, Borussia Dortmund was compelled to make the Brazilian international’s move permanent in the summer of 2025 for a substantial €25 million, despite Couto failing to truly impress during his inaugural year in Dortmund and frequently finding himself on the bench.

Throughout the most recent season, Couto continued to struggle for consistent starts. In the latter stages of the campaign, coach Niko Kovac barely utilized the 24-year-old, with Couto accumulating a mere twelve minutes of play across two months between mid-March and mid-May.

Consequently, BVB remains open to the departure of the full-back, whose current contract extends until 2030. Como quickly emerged as a serious contender for his signature, though a transfer appeared to fall through in early July. At that time, it was reported that Como’s interest in Couto had significantly cooled, and the Italian club was exploring other options for a new right-back.

However, it now appears Couto has once again become a viable option for Como coach Cesc Fabregas. Last season, the Spanish tactician guided the team, featuring playmaker Nico Paz, to a commendable fourth-place finish in Serie A. This achievement means Como has qualified for the Champions League, ensuring Couto will continue to compete at Europe’s elite club level.
