Cameroon senate president demands crackdown on sexual violence and femicides
During the opening of the Senate’s second ordinary session this Tuesday in Yaoundé, the President of the upper house, Aboubakary Abdoulaye, called on the government to take decisive action against the growing scourge of sexual violence against children and femicides.
Aboubakary Abdoulaye, who is also the Lamido of Rey Bouba, addressed the government with a solemn plea to intensify the struggle against sexual predators and those committing femicides across Cameroon.
Speaking at the launch of the parliamentary session in the presence of Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute, the President of the National Assembly, and various cabinet members, he condemned these acts as intolerable violations of human life, dignity, and physical integrity.
“Sexual abuse targeting women and children, along with acts of femicide, must be fought with absolute determination,” he declared, insisting that authorities must act to halt this cycle of violence.
This firm stance comes at a time of intense national mourning and anger following the alleged rape of a three-year-old girl in Yaoundé. The case has triggered public demonstrations and widespread indignation, bringing the urgent need for better protection of minors and more effective gender-based violence prevention to the forefront of the national agenda.
