Taiwan halts visa processing for Moroccans in response to Rabat’s move

In a reciprocal move, Taiwan has announced the suspension of visa processing for Moroccan citizens. The decision follows reports that Morocco has halted the issuance of visa confirmation letters for Taiwanese travelers worldwide, disrupting bilateral travel and exchanges.

According to Taiwan‘s foreign ministry, its embassy in Japan was notified by Moroccan authorities that visa applications for Taiwanese nationals would no longer be processed. This directive, reportedly extended to all Moroccan embassies and consulates globally, has prompted Taiwan to take immediate action.

Effective immediately, Taiwan will suspend visa applications for Moroccans, with exceptions only for special authorization cases. The foreign ministry has urged Morocco to reinstate practical travel arrangements and stated it would continue monitoring Morocco‘s visa policies before considering further steps.

Taiwan does not maintain official diplomatic relations with Morocco, as it adheres to the principle of a «single China» and recognizes the People’s Republic of China as the legitimate government. Consequently, the two entities maintain no formal diplomatic ties.
