Africa CDC Director General Jean Kaseya described his conversation with French Health Minister Stéphanie Rist as “constructive” after the confirmation of an imported case of Ebola virus disease (Bundibugyo strain) on French soil.
Kaseya applauded France’s commitment not to impose any travel restrictions related to this case.
The patient, a Congolese humanitarian doctor who had been involved in the Ebola response in Ituri province on behalf of the NGO ALIMA, tested positive after arriving in France, where he normally resides. This is the first confirmed case on French territory.
Kaseya emphasised that Africa CDC, the World Health Organization, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, as well as French and Congolese authorities, remain fully engaged in containing the outbreak, protecting communities, and advancing a coordinated response at both continental and global levels.
