The Gabonese government is on the verge of enhancing its anti-fraud framework by integrating advanced high-tech excise stamps. This potential advancement was the focal point of a high-level meeting held on June 10, 2026, where Vice-President of the Government, Herman Immongault, welcomed a delegation from the Canadian Bank Note Company (CBN), led by Vice-President Fuencisla Santiago. Discussions centered around an innovative solution designed to secure excisable goods, aligning with efforts to modernize fiscal control mechanisms and enhance the traceability of sensitive commodities.
At the heart of the proposed system are tamper-proof excise stamps that enable end-to-end monitoring of targeted products, from production to retail. This technology aims to curb counterfeiting, illicit trade, and tax evasion affecting sectors such as tobacco, beverages, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics. “We presented to the Vice-President a partnership opportunity to equip Gabon with a system capable of increasing tax revenues by strengthening oversight of excisable products,” Fuencisla Santiago explained following the discussions.
Strengthening public revenue and safeguarding consumers
The adoption of this high-tech solution would not only bolster state revenue but also shield consumers from counterfeit or non-compliant goods that threaten public health. By ensuring full transparency across supply chains, the secure stamps would streamline regulatory oversight while reinforcing trust in the market. This initiative represents a strategic step toward modernizing Gabon’s fiscal infrastructure and reinforcing regulatory authority.
The initiative reflects the Gabonese government’s broader commitment to accelerating digital transformation within its economy and securing commercial exchanges. In response to increasingly sophisticated smuggling and tax evasion networks, deploying a proven technological solution would enable Gabon to upgrade its governance tools, optimize revenue collection, and enhance the long-term efficiency of its tax administration.
