Gabonese president arrives in Abidjan for ivory coast independence celebrations

The President of Gabon, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, touched down in Abidjan on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, to attend the 66th anniversary of Côte d’Ivoire’s Independence celebrations. His presence underscores the deep-rooted cooperation and fraternal ties that bind Gabon and Côte d’Ivoire.

Warm welcome at Félix Houphouët-Boigny International Airport

Upon arrival, President Oligui Nguema received a formal welcome at Félix Houphouët-Boigny International Airport from Côte d’Ivoire’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Nialé Kaba. The reception also included key government officials, senior administrative and diplomatic figures, as well as members of the Gabonese community residing in Côte d’Ivoire.

The Gabonese Head of State was accorded full military honors as he disembarked from his aircraft. Ambassador of Gabon to Côte d’Ivoire, Fabrice Boussougou Boussougou, was among the dignitaries present, alongside numerous Gabonese nationals who gathered to express their support and solidarity.

This official visit aligns with the official ceremonies marking Côte d’Ivoire’s National Day, which have drawn leaders and international guests invited by Ivorian authorities. President Oligui Nguema’s attendance highlights both countries’ commitment to reinforcing bilateral relations and advancing shared strategic interests.
