Khalifa Sall’s bold critique of Senegal’s government at Taxawu Sénégal launch

Taxawu Sénégal, led by Khalifa Sall, recently held its founding congress at the Grand Théâtre de Dakar, marking its official transition from a political platform to a fully structured party.

The event drew massive crowds of enthusiastic supporters, waving party flags and chanting slogans in a charged political atmosphere. The gathering was not just a celebration but a statement of intent, with prominent political figures in attendance, including:

  • Bamba Fall, Mayor of Médina
  • Alioune Ndoye, Mayor of Dakar-Plateau
  • Aïssata Tall Sall
  • Oumar Sarr, Coordinator of the Front for the Republic (FDR)
  • Me El Hadji Diouf
  • Zahara Kane Thiame

Beyond the high-profile presence, the congress also saw the formal alliance of six political parties and several movements, all officially joining Taxawu Sénégal by signing its founding charter.

Khalifa Sall’s sharp critique of the current leadership

In his closing speech, Khalifa Sall emphasized the significance of the congress, calling it a « founding act » that solidifies Taxawu Sénégal’s role in Senegal’s political landscape. He painted a stark picture of the nation’s challenges, declaring that the country is « at the 20th basement level »—a metaphor for the depth of its struggles.

The former Dakar Mayor did not hold back in his criticism of the ruling duo, declaring:

« They are in the Baara Yegoo… but we have seen through their game. »

This statement, interpreted as a direct attack on the government’s performance, underscored the growing discontent within opposition circles.

An urgent call for unity among opposition forces

Khalifa Sall also urged opposition groups to unite, stressing the need for trust, cohesion, and collective action to tackle the nation’s political and social challenges. He reflected on Taxawu Sénégal’s journey—marked by challenges, victories, and political realignments—and praised the dedication of its members and allied forces in shaping the party’s future.
