Minister of Commerce Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana has announced a major discount shopping event in the city of Yaoundé.
This government-led initiative is set to transform the Boulevard du 20 Mai into a hub for affordable shopping for several weeks. The special operation, which focuses on essential consumer products, is scheduled to run from June 22 until September 30, 2026.
Organised in collaboration with various civic-minded businesses, the campaign is a central part of the national strategy to combat the rising cost of living. Its primary objectives are twofold: to protect the purchasing power of citizens during the summer holiday period and to assist families in preparing for the 2026-2027 academic year by ensuring school supplies are available at significantly reduced prices.
While the current focus is on the capital and other major urban centres, Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana emphasized that the initiative is designed to have a national reach. The programme is expected to expand across the entire country through the deployment of mobile promotional caravans.
