A morality dispute unfolded in N’Djamena’s courtroom, centering on allegations of adultery and demands for bride price restitution. The plaintiff, a soldier deployed in the Lake Chad conflict zone, uncovered his wife’s alleged infidelity upon returning from mission.

Military deployment leads to domestic crisis

The soldier’s absence due to security operations in the Lake Chad region left his wife and three children at home. Upon his return, he found the residence abandoned. Tracking her phone led him to N’Djamena’s Bakara district, where he located his wife living with another man.

Confrontation and legal action

The aggrieved husband immediately traveled to the capital and, upon locating the couple, involved local gendarmes who arrested both individuals. They were subsequently held at Klessoum detention center pending trial.

Defendant’s stance and legal proceedings

During interrogation, the wife firmly refused to reconcile with her husband, declaring her preference for her new companion. The prosecution demanded strict legal consequences for the alleged adultery, including fines of 100,000 West African francs for each defendant. The plaintiff additionally sought restitution of the bride price, valued at two million francs.

The defense argued that the wife had endured significant hardship and emotional abandonment during her husband’s prolonged absence. After hearing both sides, the court adjourned the case for deliberation, with a ruling expected in the coming days.
