At a gathering held this Saturday in Bambey, Ousmane Sonko, leader of the PASTEF party, issued a strong warning to his supporters, urging them to remain vigilant in the face of potential provocations. He emphasized that his movement could soon encounter various forms of escalation, including direct attempts to destabilize his leadership.
Ousmane Sonko stressed that certain actions might be deliberately targeted at him to trigger reactions from his followers and sow discord across Senegal. « They will resort to every kind of provocation. Some will even be aimed at me personally. They may try to exploit state institutions against me, » he cautioned.
The PASTEF chairman explained that these tactics are part of a calculated strategy to undermine both his party and the broader political landscape. « Their goal is simple: if they want to unsettle PASTEF supporters or destabilize the nation, they know they must first come after me, » he asserted.
In addition to addressing these concerns, Ousmane Sonko condemned what he described as restrictions imposed on certain party activities, particularly membership card distribution events. However, he reassured the public that Senegal will not revert to the recent period of heightened tensions under his watch. « Senegal will not endure another dark chapter as it did before, not while I am here, » he declared, dismissing the potential for manipulation to derail progress.
This statement follows the recent political shifts in Senegal, including the formation of Bassirou Diomaye Faye’s new presidential party and ongoing discussions about the future of the country’s political forces.
